Yes, everyone is welcome to adopt from our facility! As long as the adopter provides an ID with a current address, along with the other required documents, they may adopt from our facility.
Thank you for your service! If you’re in the military and don’t have an ID with your current address, you will need to bring in proof of residency (lease agreement, power bill, etc.) along with a valid ID. Review the adoption process at the Russell County – Phenix City Animal Shelter to learn more.
You may call Animal Control for nearly all animals, with the exception of wildlife (coyotes, foxes, raccoons, deer, etc.). If you have a wildlife concern, please contact the Game Warden at 334-347-9467.
Per Alabama Code, Title 3, Section 3-9-2, the State of Alabama mandates all adoptions from shelters be spayed or neutered to reduce potential future intakes.
Since there is no veterinarian on staff at our government-run facility, it poses too much of a liability to allow persons to foster without the ability to administer vaccines to the potential foster pet. If the foster parent were to be bitten and/or infected, the city would be liable.
